2008/12/16 Cold in ChicagoWow was it cold today, I just couldn’t stay warm. I actually didn’t want to go outside today, but my roommate Peyton wanted to go out to eat and see a movie. I’ve been trying to eat more at home since my latest annual physical shows my cholesterol is a tad high, but Peyton has been a bad influence. I must admit Chicago does have some great restaurants, but I want to go back to my weight when I was living in corn and beans, LOL! I saw two movies tonight, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire. Both were very good, I was a little disappointed in Milk since the previews made it look more than amazing, but I still enjoyed the history. There were parts of the film where I felt bored, they were all short lived, but there were times where the director just showed life and there was no active dialogue or action. Slumdog Millionaire started out very strange and confusing. I really didn’t remember the synopsis since I originally was going to see it downtown at a free pre-open screening. One the movie started going tho, it was really interesting and captured my interest. All I can say is I’m quite thankful for living in the United States. Anyway, I’m off to bed, a little too late, but my sleep schedule has been off. I’ve always been a night person, but 4 am is way too late even for my standards. I’ve been trying to re-engage my online life, as some of you may have noticed since I’ve been so MIA in the past. Once I moved to Chicago I found it too difficult to keep up online, sorry if anyone felt abandoned. I still cherish my online friends and enjoy catching up. @Matthew 2006/8/22 I think I killed a pigeon!Okay, so the other day I was with James and Dena driving down Lincoln Ave, going somewhere, hmm... Let me see, I'll probably figure it out if I look at my bank statement, hmm, it was before my birthday, but after we ordered flights to Seattle - oh yes, August 13 when Mandy had her baby! Now that's something to be scared of - Mandy in possession of a child! Let's see, his name is Zade Phoenix I believe.
So yeah, I was driving to Carle after we stopped by Jones' Optical to get James' previous RX - only thing is duh they're closed on Sunday! Anyway, I was going down Lincoln when this kid on the sidewalk startled this pigeon out onto the street, in my lane! I honked a few times, but the bird would not fly away! Then as we passed by, I looked in the rear-view mirror to see that the pigeon was no longer moving - I killed the poor thing! Later Dena said maybe it was just stunned since we didn't hear anything hit the car. Wishful thinking probably, but it's like the first thing I killed with my car! Other than bugs of course...stupid things. I seriously killed thousands of Japanese beetles on the way home from Chicago after picking up Dena from the airport - they were everywhere and you could hear/see them hit the window, constantly! But yeah, I always try to avoid hitting any kind of animals, and up until the 13th I was successful.
I devote this blog entry to the Lincoln Ave Pigeon, who passed away on August 13, 2006.
@Matthew 2006/8/6 Still here, somewhere...Hey kids,
Well, where has Matthew been? A very good question... This is the longest time I've spent at home in a while, it's usually out with this or that friend, it's crazy. Right now I'm running on very little sleep after staying up with one friend until 4 am and then getting up to work and then guess what? Went out with more friends tonight... One of these days I'll get my laundry done!
I hope everyone is doing well, if I haven't replied to your e-mails, ping me again - I'm so far behind!
I still love you all,
@Matthew 2006/5/29 Starbucks storiesSo James and I were going to Starbucks in campus town...something we've been doing too much of. I mean, honestly, who spends $120 in like a couple months at Starbucks?! [luckily some of that was pounds of their coffee for my dad] Anyway, I walk in and this drop dead gorgeous guy is sitting at a little table working on homework. Nothing hotter than a cute guy and a book!! Oddly enough two comfy green chairs are also right next to this guy and I tell James, "I have the right chair!" [facing the guy], LOL! I think James started talking about his wedding or something, but I don't remember since I was highly distracted, hehe. Then I pull out my phone and act like I'm just using it to call or something, and James asks, "Are you doing what I think you're doing?" and I snap a couple photos, LOL! I'm so incredibly bad!
Oh, and speaking of Starbucks I have another story. A while back James and I went to the same Starbucks and sat down at the bar. Dena called him and so I started messing with my new 8125, playing Imogen Heap's Goodnight and Go on the two little speakers. I was trying to check my mail to see what new coffees Starbucks had and this girl next to me started quietly singing parts of the song. At first I didn't realize she was actually singing, I thought it was just the phone, but sure enough she was. I was thinking about saying something to her, especially since Kip only turned me on to the group and I didn't think they were well known. However, she was doing her homework and then James got off the phone with Dena and had some news. Although if she were a guy I might have said, "Do you want to goodnight and go?" LOL!
@Matthew 2005/10/9 Sleep is so important!Well this is lovely... Before I left for Seattle I went through the shows coming up on my local PBS station and set me PVR to record the ones I really didn't want to miss. But I got very little sleep that night since I was busy packing and while I was unplugging the non-essential devices in the morning I thought my stereo was my PVR. So my PVR was off the entire time I was gone and recorded nothing. Oh well, not a big deal, but still it shows how important sleep is! I was also being far too rushed that morning and that probably played a role.
However, I learned a valuable lesson [I always take something bad and try to learn something out of it]. So from now on I'm packing early and am going to quite literally live like I'm on vacation. That is, I've always packed last second because I need my HBA (health and beauty aids) up until the moment I leave. So now I've decided I'll pack those things, but when I need them I'll use them just like if I was on vacation, but at home and I'll have all the packing done!
At least the only thing I forgot was my leave-in conditioner
@Matthew 2005/6/20 Talking about Review EndFest and Win Prizes [rev0]Lord knows it's been forever since I last bloged and I actually have like, at least two things I've wrote about in OneNote or whatever, just haven't posted them Quote Review EndFest and Win Prizes 2005/3/12 Coming soon! More tissues to last longer. [rev0]I just opened a box of Kleenex tissues and was shocked by what I saw. Quote
Indeed, thank goodness! I know what my brand of tissue will be, what's yours? I feel so bad for this marketing team... [LOL - like I don't have better things to blog about, but I'm leaving soon and will need to put off blogging again, but I will get around to it!] @Matthew 2005/1/8 A moment from my life... now with sound! [rev1]Update [2005/02/27 00:34 -06:00]: Thanks to Packet8 and some 3-way calling during voicemail playback, I now have the audio of 'a moment from my life' on the computer! I hope it brings you as much enjoyment as it brought James and Ronda. /update Okay kids, this is a tad funny although I warn you there's bad language, but you must understand I almost died! So here's the premise, Ronda just came in from town and I had a teeth cleaning appointment and then called her to find where the cheapest gas was. I got it in Urbana and then had to fly to class which is in Champaign. I'm traveling down the interstate and there is a work crew up ahead filling up potholes with some asphalt. Smart driver me gets in the right-hand lane, but this stupid Saturn who was behind me floors it past me, crams themselves in front of me and then slams on the brakes. Anyway, the rest of the story you can get from my voicemail I left on Ronda's mobile. BTW, she was trying to use all the minutes by leaving her mobile on [she's a little weird] *runs* and I had been playing Halo 2 [hence, the shotgun reference; I'm not really violent]. Quote
If you have Sprint PCS number I can forward you the message [it is pretty funny]. I didn't even mean to say 'rammed right into her ass, or his ass', LOL! Ah, good times [BTW, I'm keeping the message by forwarding it to myself, since usually it expires after 30 days]. @Matthew Update: Those of you whose phone numbers I have know that I'm notorious for leaving long messages, but by far this one is the worst! 2005/1/4 Happy Drive-Stupid Day! <:o)Posted @ 1:55 AM on Tuesday, November 09, 2004 Hello all, I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Drive-Stupid Day, yay! Oh dear, every single time I go to Walmart, which is generally only to pay my Sprint PCS bill using Precash, someone in the parking lot is either cutting lanes or driving the wrong way down the aisles. It's not brain surgery people; it's a parking lot! Last time I was exiting Walmart, some idiot is crossing all lanes of the parking lot and has that audacity to honk at me! Ooo, good thing that bitch stayed in her car because by the look of my face and how my horn was blaring, I was pissed! Luckily she stopped because I would have rammed her car all the way into next week! Hmm, think I might have road rage? Well as soon I got past the idiot bitch, this other woman turns into my parking lane, but doesn't turn hard enough and can't get past me. I'm sure I would have handled the situation more appropriately, but since I was pissed, I threw it in reverse and floored it. So then today I'm exiting Walmart yet again, someone is again crossing all the lanes of the parking lot, and turns into my parking lane which is ONE(1, uno, ein)-WAY! Absolute incompetence!!! Luckily, I knew how to handle the situation, for which she could have avoided by turning out of my lane, but since she didn't, I put it in reverse and floored it while honking my horn as loud as possible! And it doesn't stop there... I get on the interstate, pass someone in the exit only lane, but since they're neither accelerating nor using their turn single, I think they simply don't want on the interstate. Idiots! I always go the speed limit, 65, unless I'm in a hurry, and all the slow pokes are in the left lane for whatever reason. So, the fast people behind me are getting pissed because I'm going the speed limit and the people who are going *slower* than the speed limit are using the left lane. Now if let's say they couldn't move to the right lane, then they have an excuse, but no, there was plenty of room before I got there. And it wasn't just an isolated event, oh no, it was three (3) separate vehicles. So I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Drive-Stupid Day! @Matthew PS--This actually was on Monday, not Tuesday obviously, but I fell asleep this evening. |
